  1. Hi I am looking for a graphics tablet for my 12 year old daughter who has requested one for Christmas. I know next to nothing about them. She does a lot of pencil sketching of animals and people, particularly life-like dinosaurs and fictional anime-type characters. Of course, with her being 12, I am not looking for a top of the line model. My husband and I are looking to spend $200 – $400. The one preference she seems to have is that she be able to see her work on the tablet screen as she draws. I assume this makes sense to you…. 🙂
Please let me know your suggestion for her. Thank you!

    1. Hello Wendy,
The best I could recommend to your daughter for drawing is Samsung Galaxy Tab A with S-Pen. It has 10.1″ Full HD display which is perfect for drawing. The S-Pen which comes included within the package has pressure sensitivity which will enable your daughter to draw a variety of lines depending on the amount of pressure she applies, just like drawing with real pen and paper. For drawing, there are tons of apps available in Play Store and among them, Sketchbook Pro & ArtFlow are the best and most used for drawing purpose as far as I know.

Not just drawing, your daughter can do a lot more things with the Samsung Galaxy Tab A. For instance, if she has interest in cooking, then she can learn recipes from YouTube. Moreover, there are a lot of educational contents available online with which your daughter can learn things on her own.

      1. Mike….I too have a 12 year old daughter who is asking for one of these types of devices. She does what Wendy’s daughter does as well. She is also on the Yearbook staff at school. I was thinking that the Surface Pro 4 might be a great option because she could also use it as a laptop? I know NOTHING about any of this stuff….but I do know that my daughter is quite talented. Last year we bought her a drawing device that hooks to her laptop…she has to look at the computer screen (as opposed to the device she is drawing on)….so I guess she is needing to upgrade to something with a viewable screen (does that even make sense). This year she is asking for a
Artisul D10 – 10.1″ LCD Pen Display Drawing Tablet for Christmas. Do you know anything about this product? If so….should I get that or one of the ones you have listed here. Like Wendy, I would rather not spend a fortune since she is only 12, but I do want to get her something that is functional, as this is her passion.

        1. Hello Jill,
The Artisul D10 is a good drawing tablet for beginners as well as experts and I would really recommend it to your 12-year old daughter. It is mentioned in our bonus recommendations for artists section at the end of our guide. You can learn more about its features and specifications there.

          1. Hi Mike,
I have ordered the Tab A already, but I am wondering if the Artisul D10 would be better….are there any pros or cons that stand out to you about either of them?

  2. How do you feel about the Yiynova series? I’ve been going back and forth between the huion kamvas (19 “) and the Yiynova MVP22U(V3). Both of these have the highest recommendations when I research alternatives to Cintiqs. Also, why is the
Huion KAMVAS GT-156HD nearly $100 more expensive than the Huion KAMVAS GT-191 when the GT-191 has a larger screen and vastly better pressure sensitivity?

    1. Hello Anthony,
I would recommend buying the Huion Kamvas GT-191 over Yiynova MVP22U(V3) as the Huion Kamvas GT-191 offers 8192 levels of pressure sensitivity at a much lower price which will deliver 4X accuracy for drawing than the Yiynova MVP22U(V3). Moreover, the display resolution of Huion Kamvas GT-191 is 5081 LPI whereas on Yiynova MVP22U(V3) it is 4000 LPI, meaning the image quality will be sharper and detailed on KAMVAS GT-191.

Now, let me clear your doubt between the price difference of GT-191 and GT-156. The Huion KAMVAS GT-156 is more like a tablet, thin and portable, letting its users to carry it anywhere easily. While the Huion KAMVAS GT-191 features a 19″ screen which is like a monitor and it doesn’t make sense to carry a huge 19″ device in your backpack or sleeve. Moreover, the GT-156 features 14 Express Keys and Touch Bar on the front which can really maximize your efficiency and workflow. Due to its light-weight portable design and express functionalities, I think the GT-156 is priced quite higher than its bigger version.

Hope this clears your confusion 🙂

    1. Both the variants are almost identical. The only difference I could notice is of screen size and screen resolution. The smaller 10.1″ variant has 720p HD display while the bigger 13.3″ variant has 1080p Full HD display which will quite look sharper to the eyes. The smaller variant should be fine if you don’t deal with high-resolution graphics. However, I would recommend getting a tablet with 1080p screen at least.

  3. Drawing is becoming more fun as technology continues to advance. Artists are moving from the old ways of drawing on paper to now using a tablet to sketch and draw their arts. Thank you for covering this topic 🙂

  4. The Samsung Galaxy Tab A is suggested on this list, but the more recent Galaxy S3 isn’t. Is this because the Tab A is more artist-oriented and the S3 aims to function better in other areas?
If I were to get an S3, do you think it could be as good as the Tab A? I’ve never actually seen either the Tsb A or S3 in action yet.
    Thank you

    1. Hello Chriss,

If we look at the specifications of both the tablets, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 is highly specced and its performance & display are way too good than the older Galaxy Tab A. However when it comes to drawing on these tablets, both of them features pressure sensitivity and according to me the drawing experience on both these tablets is almost same. That’s why the $300 Samsung Galaxy Tab A is in the list and the $600 Galaxy Tab S3 is not. However, along with your drawing work if you want to experience latest specifications, services and bright AMOLED display then you can definitely go with the Galaxy Tab S3, it is one of the best Android tablets out in the market.
